NELFUND Extends Student Loan Applications for 2025/2026

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced an extension of the student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. This decision, communicated in a statement signed by NELFUND's Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, allows eligible institutions to submit formal requests for additional time.

Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, reiterated the fund's commitment to ensuring that eligible students can access the student loan program. The extension is a response to the nationwide interest in the loan program, which was originally set to close on February 27, 2026.

Since its inception, NELFUND has disbursed N206 billion in loans, benefiting 1,164,222 students across the country. The scheme was established under a law enacted by President Bola Tinubu in April 2024, providing interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions to cover tuition and living expenses, with repayment required upon completion of their education.
