Nigerian Education Loan Fund Extends Application Deadline for 2025-2026 Academic Session

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the loan application deadline for the 2025-2026 academic session from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026. This decision was made to ensure that all eligible Nigerian students have a fair opportunity to benefit from the interest-free loans provided by the federal government to cover tuition fees and living expenses.

The extension was announced in a statement issued in Abuja by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND. The move underscores NELFUND's commitment to inclusivity and access to education for students from low-income backgrounds.

The loan scheme was established and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in April 2024, aiming to ease financial barriers to education. As of January 29, 2026, a total of N174,561,719,810 has been disbursed through the student loan scheme.
