Protest Against Prof. Ahmed's Appointment at NVRI

On Monday, a peaceful protest occurred at the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Vom, Plateau State, where demonstrators demanded the reversal of Prof. Abdullahi Ahmed's appointment as provost of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology. The protest, which began in July, also disrupted a planned handover ceremony for Ahmed.

Protesters, dressed in black, advocated for Associate Prof. Luka Pam, a local candidate, arguing that Ahmed's appointment was unwarranted as he is from Gombe State. Barrister Weng Emmanuel Logyang, a leader of the protesters and President of the Berom Intelligentsia Forum, stated the demonstration aimed to demand recognition for the host community.

He claimed that the land for the institution had not been adequately compensated and called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's intervention. The protest faced criticism from civil society groups, including Comrade Ibrahim Yusuf, who argued it was ethnically motivated and emphasized the importance of competence over regional origins in federal appointments.
