Tinubu Government Extends Student Loan Application Deadline

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced an extension of the application deadline for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2025/2026 academic session. This decision, disclosed in a statement by NELFUND's Director of Strategic Communications, aims to provide additional time for eligible students to finalize their applications.

The extension is particularly targeted at students from tertiary institutions, allowing them to participate in the loan program. NELFUND emphasized its commitment to ensuring that eligible Nigerian students can access financial support through the student loan scheme, which is designed to remove financial barriers to higher education.

The loan program, which was legislated and signed into law by President Tinubu in April 2024, offers interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria to help cover tuition fees and educational expenses. Beneficiaries are expected to begin repayment upon completing their studies and securing employment.
