Nigeria Begins New Phase of Terror Trials for 600 Suspects

Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to making Nigeria safe by combating terrorism. He announced the beginning of a fresh phase of terror trials involving nearly 600 suspects who are facing terrorism-related charges.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Fagbemi emphasized the government's determination to confront the terror threat to national security, stating that the current administration does not take issues of terrorism lightly. This new phase marks the fourth phase of terror trials conducted since the current administration took office.

Fagbemi disclosed that 490 suspects would be tried today, with an additional 84 expected tomorrow, not including 102 suspects brought forward from the last phase, totaling over 600. He assured that the judiciary would ensure a fair trial process, highlighting that the ongoing mass trials are part of the Federal Government's broader strategy to prosecute individuals accused of terrorism and to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
