Malami's Terrorism Trial Stalled by AGF Takeover

The trial of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, concerning charges of terrorism and illegal possession of firearms has been delayed following the takeover by the new Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi. The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, adjourned the case to March 10, 2026, after Fagbemi requested time to study the case files.

Malami's son, Abdulazeez Malami, is facing five counts related to terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms, including a Sturm Magnum 17 firearm and live ammunition. The Department of State Services (DSS) has accused Malami of refusing to prosecute suspects involved in terrorism financing.

The charges against Abdulazeez include possession of firearms without legal authorization and engaging in conduct preparatory to committing acts of terrorism. The adjournment was met with frustration from Malami's representative, Adedayo Adedeji, who urged the court to dismiss the charges as premature.
