Fagbemi Takes Over Prosecution of Ex-AGF Malami

Lateef Fagbemi, the current Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has formally assumed control of the prosecution against his predecessor, Abubakar Malami, in a terrorism case involving illegal firearms. The case was taken to the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the trial scheduled to commence on March 10, 2024.

The prosecution, represented by Rotimi Oyedepo, informed Justice Joyc Abdulmalik that the trial could not proceed as the new AGF required time to review the case file. Malami's counsel, Adedayo Adedeji, expressed displeasure over the delay and urged the court to strike the charges.

The court had previously granted bail to Malami's son, Abdulazeez Malami, in the sum of N200 million with two sureties. The charges against Abdulazeez include five counts related to terrorism and unlawful possession of firearms, allegedly committed in November 2022.
