AGILE Launches Training for Teachers to Combat GBV in Schools

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has launched a five-day training program aimed at school principals and male teachers to address and prevent gender-based violence (GBV) in schools. The State Project Coordinator of Kogi AGILE, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani Oricha, emphasized the need for this training due to rising reports of GBV, particularly in school settings.
The program, held in Lokoja, targets both public and private secondary schools. Oricha, represented by Mr James Sunday Moses, highlighted the importance of training teachers to disseminate knowledge to their peers, thereby reducing GBV incidents.
He mentioned that the presence of external workers in schools necessitates vigilance to protect schoolgirls. Accountability measures, including grievance redress mechanism boxes and hotlines, have been established for reporting GBV cases.
Mrs Roseline Ozovehe, the GRM Officer for Kogi AGILE, noted that monitoring teams assess compliance with project guidelines. Joy Oluwaseun Akiola, a GBV specialist, also contributed to the training efforts.
