Kogi Police Commit to Combat Technology-Facilitated GBV

The Kogi State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has committed to taking decisive action against technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). This assurance was made during a meeting with a delegation from Protect The Child Foundation (PTCF) on an advocacy visit in Lokoja.

Kankarofi emphasized the need for collaboration with PTCF to enhance prevention, reporting, evidence gathering, and investigation of cases involving technology used to threaten or abuse women and girls. He stated that the police would ensure that technology does not become a tool for silencing or terrorizing vulnerable individuals.

The PTCF delegation, led by Programme Officer Sarah Atawodi, discussed the importance of the internet as a safe space for women and girls, urging them to protect their personal information and report digital abuse. This engagement was part of the Girls in Technology Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by ActionAid Nigeria through PTCF.
