Ekiti Guber Candidates Sign Peace Pact Ahead of Election

On June 20, 2026, Ekiti State will hold its gubernatorial election, and candidates, including the current governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have signed a peace accord. This agreement, brokered by the Nation Peace Committee in partnership with the Kukah Centre, emphasizes the rejection of violence and the commitment to a credible issue-based campaign.

The accord was signed in the presence of various stakeholders, including political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations. All candidates pledged to conduct themselves peacefully during the election and to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and actions that could disrupt the electoral process.

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan confirmed that preparations for the election are underway, with logistics and personnel being organized to ensure a transparent voting process. He warned political actors against voter intimidation and violence, while Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu assured adequate security coverage during the elections.
