Wilson Critiques Nigeria's Public Health Policy Implementation

Idongesit Wilson, a public health expert and aspirant for the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency under the Progressive Congress in Akwa Ibom State, expressed concerns over Nigeria's ineffective policy implementation in public health during a media interaction in Uyo on Friday. He stated that the core issue is not the absence of laws but the failure to implement policies effectively due to inadequately trained personnel.

Wilson highlighted the importance of building capacity within the public service to bridge the implementation gap. He noted that without properly trained, results-oriented personnel, policies would continue to have little to no impact on citizens.

Wilson called for urgent training of public servants and emphasized the need for a focus on equipping them with the necessary skills to deliver results. He also pointed out the critical role of primary healthcare and the necessity of early disease detection and public health awareness to reduce the disease burden in Nigeria.
