DSS Rescues 44 Trafficked Victims from Ghana

The Department of State Services (DSS) of Nigeria rescued 44 victims trafficked from Ghana, consisting of 27 males and 17 females. This operation was made possible through a joint effort between the DSS and relevant Ghanaian institutions.

The victims were returned safely to Accra, Ghana's capital, on March 20, 2026. The Ghanaian High Commission's representative, Mr.

Leslie Lawson, received the victims in Uyo. The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on March 13, 2026, warning the public against fraudulent recruitment networks that exploit individuals through deceptive means, including social media.

These schemes lure victims with false promises of employment and travel opportunities, leading to conditions of exploitation, restricted movement, and psychological coercion. The Nigerian security authorities, including the DSS, coordinated operations to dismantle the criminal network involved.

The Ghanaian government expressed appreciation for Nigeria's prompt intervention and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian citizens both at home and abroad.
