Traditional Ruler Arrested with AK-47 in Akwa Ibom

Chief Edet, the traditional ruler and village head of Asik Ubofa Fish Settlement in Effiat Clan, Mbo Local Government Area, was arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The 60-year-old suspect was apprehended after credible intelligence linked him to the possession of an illegal firearm.

The operation was directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Moham Azar, who coordinated efforts to verify the intelligence and take necessary action. During the operation, an AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines were recovered from the suspect's residence without incident.

The police stated that Chief Edet is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm and identify possible accomplices. The command described this arrest as a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to rid the state of illegal arms and criminal elements, urging the public to continue providing credible information to support security agencies.
