Yesufu Urges Wike to Address FCT Teachers' Strike

Aisha Yesufu, an activist, has reacted to the indefinite strike initiated by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT Wing, which commenced on April 20, 2026. The strike is a response to unresolved welfare issues and the non-implementation of a committee report submitted in August 2025.

Yesufu described the situation as a potential crisis, emphasizing that when teachers strike, it is the schoolchildren who suffer the most. She highlighted that the committee's report, which was supposed to address teachers' entitlements and promotion issues, has not been released for implementation, leading to a breakdown in the education system.

Yesufu called for immediate action from Nyesom Wike, urging him to prevent a total shutdown of schools and to address the bureaucratic delays that have hindered the resolution of these issues. The Nigeria Union of Teachers indicated that the strike affects six area councils, and Yesufu warned that prolonged delays would further weaken public confidence in the education system.
