Ondo State Launches Certification Program for Young Artisans

The Ondo State Government has initiated a free trade test and certification program aimed at 500 young artisans to enhance their employability and promote entrepreneurship. This initiative, organized by the Ondo State Board for Adult, Technical and Vocational Education in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the German Centre for Migration and Development, seeks to formally recognize practical skills acquired outside traditional education.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Secretary to the State Government Taiwo Fasoranti, described the program as a strategic intervention for youth empowerment and economic development. He noted that certification would provide evidence of competence, increasing confidence among employers and customers.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari, represented by Ondo State Controller Olanike Mogboruko, highlighted the growing demand for technical skills in the global labor market, particularly in renewable energy sectors like solar technology. Tayo Oluyi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Vocational and Technical Education, stated that the program aims to recognize artisans lacking government-approved certificates.
