Aiyedatiwa Launches N3.82bn Gratuity Payment for Retirees

On Wednesday, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa flagged off the payment of N3.82 billion in gratuities to 985 retired workers, which includes 509 retirees from the 2020 batch and 476 from the 2015 to 2019 batches. The event took place at the Cocoa Conference Centre in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa described the payment as a “debt of honour” owed to those who served the state. He acknowledged that his administration inherited significant unpaid gratuities dating back to 2015 but committed to addressing this issue.

The governor stated that the payment to the 2020 batch is a crucial step toward eliminating the backlog of gratuities. He assured retirees that their welfare would remain a priority and emphasized the importance of recognizing their years of service.

Dr Peter Akingbade, Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Pension Transition Office, confirmed that beneficiaries would receive full gratuity entitlements, which would restore dignity and hope to retired workers. The governor also credited Mrs Omowunmi Isaac and Mr Segun Odusanya for their contributions to the process.
