Kanyinsola Ajayi Wins Bronze at Commonwealth Games

Kanyinsola Ajayi, a 21-year-old Nigerian sprinter, secured a bronze medal in the men's 100m final at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, finishing with a time of 9.90 seconds. Ajayi entered the final as a favorite after achieving a season's best of 9.84 seconds and winning consecutive Diamond League events against reigning world champion Oblique Seville.

The gold medal was claimed by Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme with a Games record of 9.83 seconds, while Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy took silver in 9.85 seconds. This achievement is significant as it marks the first time in 20 years that a Nigerian male sprinter has reached the podium in this event, following Olusoji Fasuba's silver medal win in 2006.

Ajayi, who previously played football in Ikorodu, Lagos, transitioned to sprinting in 2022 and has since become a prominent figure in athletics, holding the Nigerian 100m record and winning NCAA titles.
