Ajayi Advances to 100m Final at Commonwealth Games 2026

Kanyinsola Ajayi has qualified for the men’s 100 metres final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after winning his semi-final with a time of 9.94 seconds on Tuesday. Ajayi, the national record holder, is Nigeria’s only representative in the final, following a mixed performance from the country's sprinters.

Favour Ashe finished fifth in his semi-final with a time of 10.07 seconds, while Nicholas Fakorede placed fourth in his semi-final with a time of 10.06 seconds, both failing to qualify. In the women’s 100 metres, all three Nigerian athletes also did not advance, with Miracle Oluebube Ezechukwu finishing fourth in her semi-final in 11.23 seconds.

Ajayi's performance has positioned him as a strong contender for the Commonwealth title, and he aims to secure a medal for Nigeria in this prestigious event. His qualification adds to Team Nigeria's overall success at the Glasgow Games, where the country has performed well in various sports.
