Ajudua's Bail Case Escalates to Supreme Court Challenge

Fred Chijindu Ajudua's bail battle has reached the Supreme Court, following a challenge from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against a Court of Appeal decision that granted him bail. The EFCC contends that the appellate court misinterpreted a Supreme Court judgment from May 2025, which ordered Ajudua's continued detention pending trial.

The agency argues that the appellate court's decision undermines the Supreme Court's authority and contradicts its directive for a speedy trial. The EFCC also questions the medical grounds cited for Ajudua's bail, particularly regarding his kidney condition, and warns that granting bail could frustrate the trial process.

Ajudua is accused of defrauding a Palestinian businessman of $1.043 million in a case dating back to 2005. The outcome of this Supreme Court battle will determine whether Ajudua remains free or returns to custody pending trial.
