Akpabio Proposes Induction Institute for Lawmakers

On Thursday, Godswill Akpabio, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILDS), commended the management team led by Professor Abubakar Suleiman during a board meeting at NILDS headquarters in Abuja. Akpabio noted significant progress in building legislative capacity and proposed the establishment of an institute dedicated to induction courses for lawmakers.

He emphasized the necessity of creating an academic training program for legislative staff, suggesting that the board mandate NILDS to conduct induction courses for incoming members of the Senate and House of Representatives. Akpabio expressed satisfaction with NILDS's efforts to train staff at the National Assembly and urged the council to consider resolutions regarding the induction of newly elected members in 2027.

He also praised the management for maintaining the headquarters building, acknowledging the challenges involved in such upkeep. Professor Suleiman provided updates on NILDS's progress and its partnerships with various universities.
