Reps Investigate NILDS Boss Over Political Participation

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), following allegations of his participation in the governorship primary process of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State.

The motion for the investigation was adopted on Thursday by lawmakers, led by Salisu Yusuf from Katsina State, who argued that Sulaiman's actions raised serious concerns about adherence to public service regulations and political neutrality expected from officials in sensitive public offices. It was alleged that Sulaiman purchased a nomination form and participated in the primary election, securing 1,722 votes.

The lawmakers expressed concern that his failure to resign from his position before entering the political contest violates the provisions of the code of conduct for public officials. The House has mandated its committee to investigate and report back within one week.
