Akpabio Proposes NILDS for 2027 Lawmakers’ Induction

On a recent date, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President and Chair of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), proposed that NILDS serve as the permanent venue for the induction of newly elected members of the National Assembly beginning in 2027. This proposal was made during a meeting with the governing board at NILDS headquarters in Abuja.

Akpabio commended the management for its impressive performance in fulfilling its mandate and particularly praised the Director General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, and his management team for their efforts in enhancing legislative capacity. He urged the board to consider entrusting NILDS with the responsibility of conducting induction courses for incoming federal lawmakers elected in 2027.

Akpabio emphasized the importance of the institute in training and retraining legislative staff and noted that NILDS currently operates 12 departments, including a radio station, and maintains partnerships with several higher institutions to provide specialized academic programs.
