Akpabio Defends National Assembly's Ties with Tinubu

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, defended the ties between the National Assembly and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that cooperation should not be misconstrued as a surrender of parliamentary independence. During an address at the National Assembly's open week in Abuja, Akpabio stressed the need for transparency and citizen engagement in legislative processes.

He urged Nigerians to actively participate in legislative activities and hold their representatives accountable. Akpabio highlighted the achievements of the 10th National Assembly, noting that lawmakers passed 100 bills within the first three years, aimed at strengthening national security and addressing various challenges, including reforms in the education sector and tax system.

He called for greater ownership of the parliament by citizens, encouraging them to attend public hearings and engage with their representatives. Akpabio emphasized that the true measure of parliament lies in the depth of public confidence rather than its physical barriers.
