Akwa Ibom Police Warn Against Criminal Use of Masquerades, Vow Crackdown

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, issued a warning against using masquerades to conceal criminal activities in the state. The statement, delivered by DSP Timfon John, highlighted concerns about masquerades being misused for criminal acts like aiding crime, illegal possession of firearms, assault, and drug trafficking.

Azare emphasized the cultural significance of masquerades and expressed disappointment at their misuse for illicit purposes. The Police Command vowed to crack down on individuals or groups using masquerade costumes for criminal activities, stating that such actions would face the full force of the law.

The Command pledged to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in criminal activities under the guise of masquerades.
