Akwa Ibom Launches Ibom Air to Boost Regional Connectivity

Akwa Ibom State has launched a new commercial flight service through Ibom Air, inaugurated by Governor Eno, who emphasized the importance of the state-owned airline in enhancing regional connectivity and aviation infrastructure. The inaugural flight took place on May 2, 2026, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's aviation industry.

The airline successfully transported passengers from Abuja to Accra and Uyo, showcasing the airport's growing role as a regional aviation hub. Governor Eno's commitment to developing Akwa Ibom as a center for aviation tourism and trade was reiterated during the flight.

The state has also invested in training local pilots, including Mfoniso Mkpong, at the Airbus Pilot Training Academy in Angoulême, France. Mr.

Georg Uriesi, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, described the operation as a defining moment for the airline and the aviation sector in Nigeria. The new service is expected to deepen trade, tourism, and investment across borders.
