Investment in Oron Jetty to Boost Akwa Ibom Tourism

Charl Udoh, an advisor to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, commended the investment in the Oron jetty, which is part of a broader strategy to transform Akwa Ibom into a leading tourism and transport hub. The state government has acquired two luxury ferries for the Oron-Calabar route, capable of transporting at least five vehicles at a time.

These ferries are fully air-conditioned and equipped with modern entertainment facilities to enhance passenger comfort while significantly reducing travel time between Akwa Ibom and Cross River State. The ferry service is a component of a larger maritime infrastructure program that includes constructing a modern jetty and a fish processing plant, aimed at integrating tourism and reviving commercial maritime activities in coastal cities.

Udoh noted that the Oron waterfront project would improve connectivity with neighboring coastal states, positioning Oron as a preferred destination for leisure and maritime activities. The initiative is expected to stimulate private investment and increase the state's internal revenue.
