Akwa Ibom Government Develops 1,048 Housing Units

The Akwa Ibom State Government has acquired approximately 150 hectares of land across six locations for housing development, targeting a total of 1,048 housing units at various completion stages. Dr. Henry Archibong, the Commissioner for Housing, stated that these projects, under Governor Umo Eno's administration, aim to create affordable, sustainable, eco-friendly communities in alignment with the ARISE Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11.
The Ministry of Housing's responsibilities include formulating policies for public buildings, residential housing, and managing state-owned properties. Key ongoing projects include the Aviation Village Phase 1, which is 98% completed and comprises 100 housing units, and the Doctors’ Residence at Ibom Medical City, which is 70% completed.
Other projects include the Judiciary Quarters and various housing units for civil servants and local government chairmen. Archibong noted that these housing initiatives are positively impacting the state economy, benefiting between 5,000 and 6,000 individuals directly and indirectly.
