Akwa Ibom Launches ₦5.9bn Education Reform Initiative

Akwa Ibom State has unveiled a ₦5.9 billion initiative to reform schools, as announced by Anieti Etuk, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), during a press briefing at the board's headquarters in Uyo. This intervention is set to cover the 2025-2026 academic years and aims to adopt a comprehensive approach to school development.

Governor Eno has approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers to address the shortage in public schools. The new curriculum for primary schools is described as a significant step toward improving the quality of teaching and learning.

Etuk also expressed concerns regarding disputes over school land, which affect administration and student enrollment, urging community leaders and school management committees to support efforts to enhance learning outcomes. Nsibiet John, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, commended the state government for prioritizing education and called for the strengthening of parent-teacher associations to address infrastructure challenges in schools.
