Akwa Ibom's AI-Powered Education Reform Initiative

Governor Eno of Akwa Ibom State announced a comprehensive education reform program designed to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to improve basic education. The initiative, which is part of a partnership with Eidu, aims to enhance literacy and numeracy in public primary schools with a budget of 5.9 billion naira.

Key components include a data-driven teaching model that utilizes AI-enabled tools for daily lesson planning and real-time analytics to track student performance and identify learning gaps. The program targets 790,000 children in underserved communities.

This approach contrasts sharply with the previous administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who allocated 4.7 billion naira to construct seven model schools across the six geopolitical zones, which critics argue would not significantly impact educational outcomes. Eno's strategy focuses on strengthening existing educational frameworks rather than building new infrastructure, emphasizing the need for a sustainable investment in education to develop human capital in Nigeria.
