Alaafin Urges Gani Adams to Tackle Yorubaland Insecurity

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has called on Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, to engage traditional rulers in efforts to combat insecurity in Yorubaland. This initiative, announced on Sunday, aims to create a community-driven support system that complements existing formal security structures.

The Alaafin's statement, conveyed by the Director of Cultural Public Relations, Ademola Adeniyi, highlights the importance of transparency and visible leadership in local communities to prevent panic and build trust. The call comes in the wake of recent violent incidents, including an attack on January 6, 2026, where gunmen killed five Nigerian Park Service officers in the Old Oyo National Park.

The Alaafin emphasized the need for citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, asserting that the right to live peacefully and securely is non-negotiable. He reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to work closely with stakeholders to restore safety and stability in affected areas.
