Alao-Akala Calls for Enhanced School Security in Oyo

Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, the wife of the late former governor of Oyo State, has urged for improved security measures around schools in Nigeria. This call follows the successful rescue of 39 pupils and seven teachers, including the school principal, who were abducted during an attack on May 15, 2026, in Oriir Local Government Area.

The victims spent nearly two months in captivity before being freed through coordinated efforts involving federal and state security agencies. Alao-Akala expressed relief at their release, commending the federal government and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for their roles in the operation.

She also expressed sympathy for families who lost loved ones during the tragic incident, including teachers Joel Adesiyan and Michael Oyedokun. Alao-Akala described the incident as a wake-up call for stakeholders to strengthen security around schools, ensuring children can learn in a safe environment without fear of violence or abduction.
