Federal Government Launches New Agricultural Curricula

The Federal Government has introduced a practical-oriented training model for agricultural education, unveiling 39 reviewed and newly developed curricula along with 31 National Occupational Standards. This initiative, announced by Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Abuja, adopts an 80:20 ratio of practical instruction to theoretical learning.
The reform aims to produce industry-ready graduates to tackle challenges in Nigeria's agricultural sector and is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The review process began in 2025, involving collaboration among the Federal Ministries of Education, Agriculture and Food Security, and Livestock Development, as well as various educational institutions and industry stakeholders.
The curricula include emerging areas such as Precision Agriculture and Climate-Smart Agriculture. Alausa stated that the initiative's success will be measured by graduates' practical competence and contributions to national food security.
Minister of Livestock Development Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha praised the initiative as a significant step towards practical agricultural education.
