Alausa Launches Initiative to Reform Nigeria's NBTE

On Wednesday, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, introduced a significant initiative to reform the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to improve its efficiency as a regulator in Nigeria's technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector. The reform aims to enhance the Board's institutional capacity, governance structure, and operational effectiveness.

The Federal Ministry of Education has engaged KPMG Advisory Services to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the NBTE, focusing on governance, organizational structure, operational procedures, staff capacity, and service delivery. This assessment will inform a transformation roadmap aligned with the Federal Government's broader TVET reform program.

Alausa emphasized the importance of polytechnic education and practical skills in the TVET framework, stating that the ongoing review of polytechnic curricula and the development of National Occupational Standards (NOS) are crucial for aligning training programs with industry needs and economic opportunities. The initiative supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to produce a skilled workforce for industrial development.
