FG Inaugurates NBTE Board to Boost Technical Education

On Thursday, the Federal Government inaugurated the Governing Board of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in Abuja, marking the first such board in over five years. The Minister of Education, Dr.

Tunji Alausa, urged the board to expedite reforms that align technical education with industry demands, modernize curricula, certify skilled artisans, and enhance Nigeria's global competitiveness. This inauguration is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education and human capital development for economic transformation.

Alausa stated that the government is shifting focus from traditional academic certificates to producing skilled graduates capable of driving industrialization and entrepreneurship. He outlined four key priorities for the board, including strategic leadership, modernizing curricula to reflect Industry 4.0, and managing public resources effectively.

The minister also directed collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund to implement the Recognition of Prior Learning initiative, aimed at certifying the competencies of skilled artisans.
