Alex Iwobi Prefers 100th Cap at 2026 World Cup

Alex Iwobi stated he would have been happier marking his 100th cap for Nigeria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Iwobi, who plays for the Super Eagles, is set to earn his 100th cap during a friendly match against Portugal in Leiria on Wednesday.

He made his debut for Nigeria on October 8, 2015, in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo. Iwobi has participated in two World Cup attempts, with Nigeria failing to progress beyond the group stage in 2018 and not qualifying for the 2022 tournament.

He has also featured in four Africa Cup of Nations finals, winning silver in 2023 and bronze in 2019. Iwobi expressed pride in representing Nigeria, stating that despite missing the World Cup, he has no regrets about choosing to play for Nigeria over England, where he also played at youth levels.
