Alex Iwobi Celebrates 100th Nigeria Appearance in Portugal

Alex Iwobi achieved a significant milestone by making his 100th appearance for the Nigeria national football team during a friendly match against Portugal in Leiria on Wednesday. He received a commemorative plaque bearing the number 100 from Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Iwobi is now the fourth player to reach this landmark, joining the ranks of Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama, and Ahmed Musa. His debut for Nigeria was in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Belgium on October 8, 2015.

Iwobi scored his first goal for Nigeria against Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in October 2017, which helped secure Nigeria's qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Reflecting on his journey, Iwobi expressed pride in representing Nigeria and emphasized that his decision to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria felt right, as he always felt at home with the Nigerian team.
