Alia and Akume Disagree on APC Reconciliation Terms

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State and Senator George Akume expressed differing views on reconciliation terms after a high-level meeting held on Sunday at the Government House in Makurdi. The meeting, which lasted three hours under tight security, was convened to address the strained relationship and factional divides within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akume, speaking to journalists after the closed-door session, revealed that Alia apologized for actions that may have deepened divisions within the party. However, Alia countered Akume's claims, particularly regarding automatic ticket endorsements, clarifying that no resolution was reached and emphasizing the need for unity within the party.

Alia described Akume's remarks as appealing rather than binding. The meeting included former Governor Gabriel Suswam, who engaged in efforts to restore unity, and Senator Emmanuel Udende confirmed that peace was central to the discussions.

The outcome highlighted the ongoing challenges within the APC in Benue State.
