Benue Governor Alia Praises State Police Bill Passage

Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, commended the Benue State House of Assembly for passing a bill aimed at establishing a state police force. In a broadcast on June 12, 2023, he described the passage of the bill as a bold and commendable step towards strengthening Nigeria's security architecture.

Alia emphasized the need for a localized police response system capable of addressing the unique security challenges faced by different communities across the country. He issued a statement available to journalists in Makurdi, urging Nigerians to support the development of necessary reforms to enhance public safety and deepen grassroots security.

Alia highlighted the efforts of his administration to improve security in the state, including the provision of 150 operational vehicles and 600 motorcycles, as well as the establishment of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard and a joint task force to facilitate a gradual return to peace in various parts of the state.
