Allegations of Abuse in Court Martial of Coup Plot Officers

The court martial convened by Major General M. Alechenu at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja has sparked outrage due to allegations of inhuman treatment and denial of fair hearing for 36 military officers accused of coup-related offenses.

Reports indicate that these officers were brought to the military court in leg chains, displaying signs of physical abuse and deteriorating health. Family members of the accused have been reportedly barred from attending the proceedings, raising concerns about transparency and compliance with constitutional provisions for a fair hearing.

The court martial, which includes senior officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, is under scrutiny as allegations surface that some panel members previously accused the defendants of torture during investigations.
