Court Martial to Try 36 Nigerian Officers for Coup Plot

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has convened a court martial to try 36 military personnel of various ranks from the Nigerian Armed Forces, accused of plotting a coup against the president. The list of accused includes high-ranking officers such as Brigadier General Ma Sadiq and several Colonels and Majors, along with lower ranks including Sergeants and Corporals.

Specific charges against the personnel have not been disclosed, but the convening order affirms their right to legal representation and a fair trial. The trial will take place under extensive security arrangements at the Scorpion Officers' Mess in Asokoro, Abuja.

Accused personnel will remain in custody and will be escorted during the proceedings, which will follow the Armed Forces Act of 2004. The court martial will operate under strict timelines, and the accused are required to appear in designated military and civilian attire.
