Court Orders Arrest of NSCDC Officers for Assaulting Lawyer

The Chief Magistrate Court in Ilorin has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following an alleged assault on lawyer Aladodo Abdullateef Nurudeen on April 10, 2026. Nurudeen was reportedly beaten after he identified himself as a legal practitioner while visiting a client at the NSCDC facility in Ilorin.

The incident involved physical assault, leaving Nurudeen injured and humiliated. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) described the incident as unprovoked and a violation of the dignity and safety of legal practitioners.

Prosecuting counsel Professor D. Ariyo Osu informed the court that the NSCDC command in Kwara State failed to comply with a previous court order regarding the accused officers.

The court has summoned the NSCDC command to explain their non-compliance and has adjourned the matter to May 20, 2026, for further hearing.
