Civil Society Demands Resignation of Deputy Speaker Kalu

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance has demanded that Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, step down within 72 hours due to allegations of perjury and certificate fraud. The coalition raised concerns about the constitutional legality of Kalu's continued position, questioning his compliance with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and Nigerian Law School requirements.

Spokesperson Domin Ogakwu emphasized the need for relevant authorities, including the NYSC and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, to act swiftly. The coalition claims Kalu, who has sworn two oaths regarding his NYSC and law school attendance, has not provided clarity on his ability to earn his NYSC discharge certificate dated March 8, 2011, while allegedly not participating in the NYSC during his studies.

Kalu's name change declaration on April 23, 2010, has also been scrutinized, with the coalition demanding accountability from Kalu and the relevant authorities.
