NBA President Vows to Sanction Abusive Lawyers Online

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, was inaugurated as the 33rd president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) during the 66th NBA Annual General Conference in Rivers State. In her inaugural address, she vowed to impose sanctions on lawyers who engage in abusive or insulting language against colleagues on social media, highlighting a zero-tolerance policy for professional misconduct.

Badejo-Okusanya warned that such lawyers would face public disciplinary proceedings, as their conduct has raised concerns among the public and the legal profession. She also pledged to defend judicial independence and address issues such as delays in court proceedings, conflicting judgments, and corruption that undermine public confidence in the judiciary.

Furthermore, she stated that the NBA would engage constructively with government authorities while maintaining its loyalty to the Constitution and justice, avoiding alignment with any political party or interest group. Her administration aims for continuity in effective initiatives while addressing those that have not succeeded.
