Court Grants Omoyele Sowore Bail with New Conditions

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, the president of the African Action Congress, under fresh conditions set by Justice Umar Mohammed. Sowore is required to provide two sureties who will sign a bail bond of N200 million.
One surety must be a traditional ruler from Sowore's community in Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State, while the second must own land property within the Federal Capital Territory. Additionally, the court directed Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Registrar for safekeeping.
This decision follows the court's earlier ruling that revoked Sowore's bail granted on self-recognition in December 2025 due to his failure to appear for trial on June 16, 2026, which led to the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest. Sowore's lawyer, Raphael Adakol, plans to appeal for his client's release to retrieve his passport from the U.S.
Embassy in Lagos. The matter has been adjourned until July 6, 2026, for further hearing.
