FUOYE Suspends Officials Over Alleged Student Extortion

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti suspended Deputy Dean of Student Affairs Banji Rildwan Olaley and Student Union Government President Jame Iyanuoluwa Adio due to allegations of extortion. Mufutau Ibrahim, the university's registrar, stated that Olaley and Adio were involved in collecting N1,000 from first-year students as an unauthorized fee.

An investigative committee found that Ogunjobi, the director of educational technology and innovation, had authorized the collection of funds without the involvement of the university's Senate, violating existing payment rules. The committee allowed those accused to explain their actions.

It was noted that Adio indirectly participated in the scheme and later requested the return of N700,000 sent to his personal bank account. The university management condemned these actions as detrimental to its efforts to combat corruption and maintain its reputation, emphasizing that it would not tolerate any form of extortion or financial impropriety.
