FUOYE Suspends Officials Over Student Extortion Allegations

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti suspended two senior officials and the president of the Student Union Government (SUG) due to allegations of extortion. Registrar Mufutau Ibrahim disclosed that the officials, Olanrewaju Ogunjobi, Director of Educational Technology and Innovation, and Banji Rildwan Olaley, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, were accused of compelling students to pay unauthorized fees of N1,000 during a purported session.

An investigative committee was formed to examine the allegations, which indicated that Ogunjobi allegedly approved the collection of funds without the necessary university authorization. The committee found that Olaley played a role in the collection process despite his position within the university's student affairs structure.

SUG president Jame Iyanuoluwa Adio was also implicated in the matter, with claims of indirect involvement in handling funds and a subsequent request for a refund leading to a transfer of N700,000 to a personal bank account. The university management emphasized its commitment to protecting students from exploitation and ensuring financial transactions comply with established procedures.
