FUOYE Threatens Dismissal for Lecturers Extorting Students

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has issued a stern warning to its academic staff regarding the extortion of students, stating that any lecturer found guilty of such practices will face immediate dismissal, subject to the ratification of the governing council. This decision was made during a Senate meeting held on April 29, led by Vice Chancellor Prof.

Joshua Ogunwol. The university has adopted a zero-tolerance stance towards student extortion, which includes the collection of unauthorized fees, particularly from final year students.

Prof. Ogunwol emphasized that the university's bursary is the only authorized body to collect fees from students.

The university aims to ensure that students can pursue their studies without undue financial pressure and has held department heads accountable for failing to prevent such misconduct. The decision follows numerous complaints from students detailing various forms of extortion, prompting the Senate to take action to maintain ethical standards and a conducive academic environment.
