NDC Condemns Alleged Illegal Detention in Kogi State

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed outrage over the alleged illegal detention of Faruk Ozigi Onimisi in Kogi State, describing his arrest as a continuation of a growing pattern of repression against opposition figures in the state. The NDC, through its Deputy National Public Secretary, Abdulmumin Ohiar Abdulsalam, stated that Onimisi, a recent defector from the All Progressives Congress (APC), was abducted in a commando-style operation in Abuja and transferred to Lokoja, Kogi State.

He is currently being held by the Nigerian Police Force's Criminal Investigation Department without access to his family or legal representation and without formal charges, which the NDC claims constitutes a violation of fundamental human rights. The party demands Onimisi's immediate release and warns that it will pursue legal redress if he is not charged promptly.

The NDC also cautioned the Kogi State government, led by Governor Ahm Usman Ododo, against undemocratic practices that could escalate tensions in the region.
