Court Grants Bail to SDP Chairman Shehu Gabam for N3m

On Tuesday, a magistrate court in Wuse Zone 2, Federal Capital Territory, granted bail to Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the amount of N3 million. Gabam was charged with financial misappropriation, specifically involving N35 million and forgery related to the party's funds.

Alongside him, Chukwuma Uchechukwu was also arraigned on six counts of financial misappropriation. Gabam pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court, presided over by Magistrate Amauch Onyedium, set the bail conditions requiring two sureties within Abuja with valid identification.

The opposition party, led by Sadiq Abubakar, has expressed intentions to pursue legal action against Gabam, accusing him of squandering party funds during the 2022-2023 period. The situation escalated recently when police officers reportedly invaded the SDP national secretariat, leading to the expulsion of Gabam from his position, although he was later reinstated.
