Shehu Gabam Arraigned for N35 Million Misappropriation

Shehu Gabam, the former chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), was arraigned on Tuesday at the Wuse Zone 2 Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory on charges of financial misappropriation totaling N35 million. Alongside Chukwuma Uchechukwu, Gabam faced six counts, including forgery and breach of trust.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Amaechi Onyedium granted Gabam bail set at N3 million with two sureties residing in Abuja.

Sodiq Abubakar, the current chairman of SDP, expressed concerns over Gabam's actions, stating that the party is taking legal steps to address the situation and restore confidence in the judiciary. Abubakar emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission to prosecute Gabam, citing the mismanagement of party funds during the 2022-2023 period.

The incident has raised significant issues within the party, especially following the national convention held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026.
